I think autumn is second only to spring for walking here in Derbyshire. The colours are amazing and those lovely clean crisp days that start with mist rising from the valley as the sun starts to warm up the earth and end with a glass of red wine or a pint around a roaring pub fire are the absolute best. One of my favourite local pubs is the Flying Childers in Stanton-in-the-Peak, a wonderful old pub that has won several real ale awards over the years. Walk from Rowsley up onto Stanton Moor to see the Bronze Age Nine Ladies Stone Circle and Cork Stone and then head down into the village. Then, after a pint and a pie walk back through the fields to Rowsley, enjoying stunning views across the Derbyshire Wye Valley towards Haddon Hall. A perfect day.
