This undemanding but stunningly beautiful 3 mile flat walk broadly follows the west bank of the River Derwent from Rowsley all the way to Chatsworth House. Once you cross over the humpback bridge into Chatsworth Park you can walk right on the river bank to the house, once voted The Nation’s Favourite Stately Home in a BBC poll. The views of the house as you approach, with the Emperor Fountain in the foreground and the Hunting Tower proudly standing on the hills behind is second to none. On a sunny day the recently restored gilt window frames glint in the sunshine, welcoming visitors to this incredible estate. When I do this walk I like to sit and have a coffee and a piece of cake from the little kiosk near the entrance and watch the world go by, enjoying the view across the valley before making my way home again. One way is about an hour and a half if you take your time and enjoy the scenery.
