This 2.5 – 3 hour circular walk climbs up to Stanton Moor passing an Elizabethan manor house and an abandoned Victorian quarry hidden in the woods on the way. Stanton Moor is full of bronze age burial mounds and standing stones including the Cork Stone and King Stone. The crowning glory is the Nine Ladies Stone Circle, a ring of nine small standing stones in a clearing surrounded by ancient oak trees amidst acres of heather moor. The walk also takes in the wonderful village of Stanton-in-the-Peak with the most incredible views across the Derwent Valley and you can always pause for a pint at the Flying Childers Inn a multi-award winning pub specialising in local ales – one of my absolute favourites!
