As in the back of the dragon, not as many might read this (I flatter myself that many are going to read this) the dragon has returned.
As we surge towards Easter I was thinking about how to avoid the crowds that inevitably flock to some of the more well-known walks in the Peak District. Avoid the stepping stones at Dovedale and Mam Tor like the plague is my advice.
One incredible and lesser known walk is around a ridge system that is actually two hills next to each other – Chrome Hill and Parkhurst Hill, which look exact like the ridged back of a sleeping dragon. You can walk along the top of this ridge, but it can be treacherous in high winds so take care and be sensible. The views are pretty incredible though.
It’s actually amazing how easy it is to get away from the crowds here in the Peak District, which is incredibly the second most visited national park in the world – the first, in case you are interested, is in Japan.
The Dragon’s Back is an incredible walk, starting from the tiny village of Earl Sterndale and if you find the most incredible honesty shed I’ve ever seen along the way then you can stop for coffee and a piece of cake too!
