Bakewell is about 3.5 miles from Rowsley via this amazing walk. Lovely views including this one looking towards the old market town make it one of my favourite walks from The Old Station House. Once you have navigated the quite steep climb up Church Lane you can stop at the top and rest on the handy bench before the footpath takes you gradually down to the Agricultural Centre and then over the medieval bridge into town. This walk also connects with the famous Monsal Trail. You pass under the viaduct that marks the trail head, so can take a little detour onto the trail and walk the additional 8.5 miles, almost to Buxton – if you are feeling energetic!
If you opt not to take the detour, don’t forget to reward yourself with a Bakewell Pudding (not a tart!) when you get into town.
Don’t worry, you can always get a bus back to Rowsley.
